Earth Preta Group Tops 200 Victims
March 28th, 2023 |
The Cyberespionage APT group, Earth Preta, has been found to have effectively compromised over 200 victims to date.
Threat intelligence analysis done into Earth Preta to understand their operations, techniques and procedures in order to develop counter-measures highlighted just how effective this group has become.
Key findings show that Earth Preta operates within a type of hierarchical structure, where a core group develops all hacking tools and then distributes those tools to other threat sub-groups who then conduct the attacks. Each of these groups has varying ways in which they operate, some are highly experienced and others not.
While certain sub-groups focus more on targeting government entities, others focus more on stealing intellectual property and confidential data.
Findings also show that certain organizations were targeted by multiple sub-groups, which suggests that the various tentacles of the threat actors do not coordinate while pursuing similar objectives.
The likely sub-groups that are involved under Earth Preta are Group(s) 724, 1358 and 5171.
